Anand in action…

Finally Viswanathan Anand won a game (ending a long chain of nine consecutive draws) over Alexei Shirov in the tenth round of the of the Corus chess tournament in Wijk Aan Zee.
 

'A' group positions after tenth round:

1.     Vladimir Kramnik (Russia): 7 points

2.     Magnus Carlsen (Norway): 6.5 points

2.     Alexei Shirov (Spain): 6.5 points

3.     Viswanathan Anand (India): 5.5 points

3.     Hikaru Nakamura (US): 5.5 points

3.     Leinier Dominguez (Cuba): 5.5 points

3.     Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine): 5.5 points

3.     Sergey Karjakin (Russia, defending champion): 5.5 points

 

'B' group positions:

1.     Anish Giri (Holland): 7 points.

2.     Erwin l'Ami (Holland):  6.5 points

2.     Ni Hua (China): 6.5 points

 

Parimarjan Negi is joint fifth on 5.5 points

Harikrishna is seventh on 5 points.

 

'C' group positions:

 

Abhijeet Gupta is joint fifth on 5.5 points
 
World junior girls' champion Soumya Swaminathan scored her first victory stands 13th in the 14-players competition.
